Participants have a choice of two programs, depending on their aptitude
and preferences. In both cases, the programme lasts for three years.
Hotel Operations Programme
This consists of time spent in various sections of the three
major operations departments: Food and Beverage, Front Office and Housekeeping.
Kitchen Operations Programme
This involves training in Western and Indian kitchens and specialist operations
such as bakery, pastry and cold kitchen.
The educational elements
The education element is delivered through the correspondence programme
of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). The salient features
are:
- pre-paid registration with IGNOU on the BTS programme;
- one full day of independent study in the hotel Training Office;
- reference books and materials available;
- access to a PC and the Internet; and
- study leave during exam periods.
The training elements
Systematic training is delivered by Certified Departmental Trainers to
equip a trainee with multiple skills required in various hotel sections
or departments. This is supported by:
- standard task checklists for each of the departments and sections involved;
- common training approach for all tasks;
- standard trade tests, objective questions, exams and assessments; and
- central performance record system.
On successful completion of the three year programme trainees are awarded
the Oberoi Certificate of Proficiency.
Apart from the long term career prospects, the programme enables you
to save at least Rs 1.5 lakhs in college tuition fees.
