Overview
The Kohinoor Suite, much like its namesake, is one of a kind. As the grandest suite at The Oberoi, New Delhi, it has hosted Heads of States and many other dignitaries from across the world. Located high above the tree line, on the 7th floor of the hotel, and spread over 3,600 square feet, the suite comprises a living room, dining room with a service pantry, a fully-equipped study, master bedroom, a private living room and a relaxation room furnished with a treadmill and a massage bed. While a luxurious bathroom is adjacent to the private living and relaxation rooms, a guest powder room is located off the living area. To ensure the safety of the residents, up-to-date security features have been installed. The special Executive Suite and Luxury Room, adjacent to the Kohinoor Suite, provide suitable accommodation for additional members of the family, security personnel or personal assistants. The formal entry hall of the suite, perfectly frames an eclectic display of a series of Shivalingas (a representation of Lord Shiva, the Destroyer in the India Trinity) in black granite and, beyond these, a life-size bronze of a woman languidly seated on a delicate chair, magnificently crafted by the Indian sculptor, Dimpy Menon. The rooms within the Kohinoor Suite flow one into the other and are separated by floor-to-ceiling sliding doors, which, once shut, accord complete privacy. The layout of the suite allows for the private spaces to be segregated seamlessly from the public areas.
Design and Layout
The suite’s layout presents a liberating sense of space with its mutedly elegant interiors. This is complemented by expansive views of the Delhi Golf Course and the magnificent 16th century tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun. Unrivalled in service, refined design details and meticulous appointments, the Kohinoor Suite is minimally furnished – the focus being on comfort and convenience. Judiciously selected decorative elements combined with the natural texture of silk, leather, wood and marble impart a certain warmth and richness to the interiors. A palette predominantly of beige, champagne and caramel tones imbues the space with a sense of calm, with the striking artworks lending the only burst of brilliant colour. The tranquility is accentuated by the floor-to-ceiling windows that admit an abundance of natural light and frame sweeping views of the surrounding greenery.
Living Room
Spread over 860 square feet, the living room includes comfortable sitting areas, furnished with two clusters of sofas, coffee tables and peg tables. A leather clad wall dressed in tones of beige, hand knotted woollen rugs, hand-woven silk-upholstered cushions (the colour of the setting sun), the soft glow of cove lighting and the glorious view of Humayun’s tomb amidst lush foliage framed by picture windows lend warmth to this space. Additional amenities include a wall-mounted 42-inch high-definition LCD television, CD and DVD player and Phillipe Stark touch sensitive table lamps.
The Study
The study can be accessed from the living room and bedroom, making it a transitional space, between the public areas and the private recesses of the Kohinoor Suite. The 360 square feet study is dedicated to providing a relaxed and tranquil work atmosphere. The oak wood floor, walls clad in wenge veneer and pale lime green silk screens that serve as doors contrast with the lush deep green foliage of the Delhi Golf Course visible through the window. Besides an executive writing desk, a high back lounge chair with a footrest and tall bookshelves lined with leather-bound classics, this multifunctional workspace includes necessities such as high-speed Internet access, two-line speaker phones and data port, facilities for printing, photocopying, faxing and scanning and a 17-inch LCD television.
The Master Bedroom
The sense of calm also permeates the sprawling 350 square feet master bedroom which features a king-size bed, flanked by large bedside tables. The room is also furnished with a single-seater ottoman. An abundance of natural light filters into the room through Thai silk sheers in neutral tones of champagne and heavier drapes in a deeper shade of the same colour that hang on the large picture window overlooking the fairways of the Golf Course. The wenge veneer of the walls, oak wood floor, the leather clad headboard of the bed, in tones of beige, which extends upwards to form the false ceiling, a hand tufted rug completed with the soft glow of cove lighting, envelope the space with warmth. An added amenity in the room is the extensive pillow-menu including Buck wheat pillow, Memory foam pillow, Dual zone pillow and Body pillow as options to aid sound sleep. Other amenities include a 42-inch LCD television; two-line speaker phones and a Bose surround sound radio and CD player.
The Master Bathroom
The luxurious bathroom with marble and wood finishing, offers a double vanity counter, a separate glass-enclosed steam and shower stall, separate water closet and a large free standing bathtub placed directly below a picture window that offers sweeping views of the surrounding greenery and the Golf Course. A free standing 17-inch LCD television is provided next to the bathtub.
Private Living Room
The bedroom leads into the private living room, which includes a comfortable two-seater silk upholstered sofa, armchairs upholstered in beige leather and a coffee table with dark polish finishing. Similar to the rest of the areas, the floor is of oak wood and the walls have a wenge veneer, while silk sheers hang on a window that provides panoramic views of the greens of the Golf Course. Additional amenities of the private living room include a well-stocked mini-bar, tea and coffee making facilities and a refrigerator.
The Relaxation Room & Dressing Area
The relaxation room is equipped with a treadmill which is fitted with a LCD display monitor. This room also includes a massage bed for those who would like to luxuriate in holistic, non-clinical therapies, massages and beauty treatments without having to step out of the comfort of the suite. Residents can choose from an extensive range of treatments, which incorporate Ayurvedic, aromatherapy and western techniques, listed on the menu of the Oberoi Spa. The relaxation room leads into a lavish oversized dressing area, which includes a walk-in closet with custom cabinetry, a large luggage rack and an in-room safe.
Dining Room
The dining room, with a separate pantry, is directly accessible from the main entrance hall and flows into the living room. It has a dining table that seats six. Oakwood panels in tones of caramel with brushed stainless steel accents make for an interesting play of weaves to form one wall. The hand tufted rug on the Italian marble floor and the sheer Thai silk curtains in a neutral champagne tone complete the design. The service pantry is equipped with a toaster, microwave oven, refrigerator and a granite countertop.
