Jatiluwih Village.

Situated at an altitude of 700 metres, Jatiluwih village is a green, fertile expanse of rice paddies that seem to unfold from the sides of Mount Agung and Mount Batukaru and extend all the way to the coast. Paddy farmers here rely on a traditional, community based irrigation system known as subak. A UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Kintamani.

This northern village area is a lovely place for walking; famed as it is, for its beautiful natural landscape, its active volcano, mountain views and the largest lake in Bali. Batur Lake is framed by villages heralded as living examples of ancient Balinese customs. Not for the faint hearted, these include the open burial of the dead under Taru Menyan trees.

Klungkung Palace and Kertha Gosa Pavilion.

Klungkung Palace has a fantastic chandi bentar (welcoming gate) and is surrounded by beautiful lotus ponds. The centrepiece is the Kertha Gosa Pavilion (the Hall of Justice) that dates back to the end of the 17th century. Originally the royal court of Bali, it was presided over by three Brahmana priests and still has traditional ceiling paintings depicting different punishments in the afterlife.

Monkey Forest.

The 1,25,000 square metres Monkey Forest in Ubud is home to around seven hundred monkeys and almost two hundred species of trees. Some up to forty metres tall. The hordes of Balinese monkeys that inhabit the trees will greet you as you enter the forest. Some will be daring enough to get quite up close and personal. We recommend you keep anything shiny or valuable well out of their reach. Local people revere the Monkey Forest as an important spiritual, educational and conservation centre. Within its vast expanse, there are three large temples for the residents’ exclusive use and an open air stage for cultural performances.
