BOOK A STAY

Welcome to Kolkata.

The erstwhile capital of colonial India, Kolkata is a thriving city famous for its culture, cuisine and historical monuments. Often referred to as the City of Joy, it is also known for its unique ‘adda’, a freestyle exchange of socio political ideas and intellectual debate that is enthusiastically engaged in, in public spaces over a cup of steaming chai.

Fondly referred to as the Grand Dame of Chowringhee, our 5 star hotel in Kolkata The Oberoi Grand has been an icon on the landscape of Kolkata for more than a century; with a reputation for taking care of its guests that befits the best hotel in Kolkata.

The sense of calm that pervades the outdoor space is carried into the classically appointed rooms and suites of our 5 star hotel in Kolkata that encircle the courtyard. Fine dining spaces, grand banqueting venues, a business centre and a spa ensure that all your needs are covered.

The hotel is equipped with Electric Vehicle charging stations as well.

Exploring Kolkata: The City of Joy.

From parks to palaces, historic architecture, churches, museums and more. Kolkata has something for everyone.s

Victoria Memorial.

Victoria Memorial Hall is a tremendous 103 metres long, 56 metres high and is topped by a 5 metre tall bronze statue of Victory, which rotates in the wind. Fondly known as “The Pride of Kolkata”, it is a magnificent sight framed by vast, beautiful gardens. Spectacular on the outside, it also houses an impressive collection of weapons, maps, coins, stamps, artefacts and textiles, as well as portraits of Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and Indian freedom fighters.

Howrah Bridge.

Kolkata’s iconic cantilever bridge is a feat of engineering, with a suspended span of 457 metres and a total length of 705 metres between the banks of the Hooghly River. Built in 1943 to replace a pontoon bridge at the same location, the Howrah Bridge is the oldest bridge in Kolkata and the busiest cantilever bridge in the world; carrying an estimated 100,000 motor vehicles and 150,000 pedestrians each day.

St. Paul’s Cathedral.

This is the largest cathedral in Kolkata. Built in 1847 for the ever increasing numbers of European Anglicans in the city at that time, St. Paul’s is a fantastic example of Indo-Gothic architecture; a gothic style that was adapted to suit the climactic conditions of Kolkata. It was originally funded by ten pieces of silver sent by Queen Victoria and has been rebuilt twice, for somewhat more than ten pieces of silver, after suffering extensive earthquake damage. St. Paul’s Cathedral boasts a library of some 8,000 texts. Church services are held there regularly and Christmas service is highly recommended.

The Indian Museum.

The Indian Museum is the earliest and largest museum in the Asia-Pacific region. It was originally conceived of by the members of the Asiatic Society as far back as 1796, as a repository for artefacts and as a centre for the dissemination of knowledge. The idea was deliberated until 1814, when the foundation stone was finally laid. As well as its rare collections of antiques, armour, ornaments, fabrics and paintings, The Indian Museum houses vast numbers of fossils and examples of taxidermy, tremendous skeletons and mummies.
