Exploring Jaipur.
A hill top fortress, sprawling palaces, vibrant bazaars and astrology abound in the “Pink City”.s
Amber Fort.
Amber Fort is an imposing sight; a sprawling fortress located high on a hill over Jaipur. It is a truly complex arrangement of palaces and courtyards, enclosed by a high sandstone wall. Notable features include the “Hall of Public Audience” (Diwan-e-Aam), the “Hall of Private Audience” (Diwan-e-Khas), the “Mirror Palace” (Sheesh Mahal) and the “Residence of Happiness” (Sukh Niwas).

City Palace.

Hawa
Mahal.
The “Palace of the Winds” takes its name from its intricate latticework screen facade behind which women of the royal household would secret themselves to watch the world below. The facade is actually a composition of 953 windows and niches, behind which is a true masterpiece of labyrinthine palaces, halls, pavilions, gardens and temples.

Jaigarh fort.
Spanning three kilometres in length and one kilometre in width across the Aravalli Ranges, Jaigarh Fort overlooks and is connected by underground tunnels to Amber Fort. Views from the fort encompass both Amber and Maota Lake. Within its tremendous red stone walls lie beautiful palaces, gardens, courtyards and temples. Due to the abundance of iron ore in the vicinity, shortly after it was completed in 1726, Jaigarh became a prolific cannon foundry.
In the late 1970s, a rumour was started that hidden within Jaigarh was a missing treasure belonging to the Kachwaha rulers of Amer. The rumour gained such impetus that the Income Tax Department of India, under the directive of the Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, even conducted a two day search for the treasure using metal detectors. But to no avail. Nowadays, the most significant treasure here is the cannon foundry’s massive and highly ornate, fifty tonne Jaivana cannon and matching fifty kilogramme cannon ball.
