Baluran National Park is located on the eastern side of Java, making it an easy trip from neighbouring Bali. The park features Mount Baluran at its highest point. The terrain is largely savanna, lowland and mangrove forests, and gentle hills. Mount Ijen is a volcano in Java that is renowned for its acidic crater lake, sulphur mining and blue flame phenomenon. Due to the intense sulphur mining here, the huge azure crater lake at the top of the mountain is the largest and most acidic lake in the world. Also, due to gases released during the sulphur mining process, at night, huge blue flames can be seen shooting out of the top of the volcano, which has in recent years, spurred a rise in night-time treks to the area. Pura Besakih Temple is one of the most popular places to visit in Bali. It casts a dramatic spell, perched high up on the slopes of the sacred Mount Agung. Pura Besakih is comprised of 23 interrelated temples which are arranged over six terraced levels connected by flights of stairs. All of which lead to the main spire.
