World Environment Day 2026: Discover Sustainable Luxury at Oberoi Hotels & Resorts

Read Time: 4 Minutes

At Oberoi Hotels & Resorts, luxury and sustainability go hand in hand. Guided by a profound respect for earth, water and air, the philosophy ‘Elements, by Oberoi’ takes shape in purposeful action, innovation and long-term accountability to local communities, guests and the future of the planet.

Nature at the heart of every stay

Across Oberoi Hotels & Resorts, nature is not simply admired, it is intrinsic to every guest experience. From the ancient olive groves at The Oberoi, Marrakech to the vast rain-fed lake at The Oberoi Rajgarh Palace, Khajuraho and the pristine beaches at The Oberoi Beach Resort, Mauritius, there is a deep respect for unique landscapes that offer immersive retreats into nature.

From garden to gourmet

Stay at The Oberoi Sukhvilas Resort & Spa, Siswan Forest, New Chandigarh and tour the kitchen gardens with a chef who will prepare your breakfast using ingredients from those very plants. Or explore the herb gardens and enjoy dinner in its green expanse.

Oberoi Hotels & Resorts compost their kitchen waste to nourish their onsite, organic herb and vegetable gardens. This not only reduces landfill waste but also enriches the gardens naturally, so every meal becomes part of a mindful cycle that its guests can enjoy with awareness.

Refill, reuse, reimagine

The hotel group’s efforts to reduce waste extend into the fabric of guest services. At Oberoi Hotels & Resorts across India, single-use plastic bottles have been replaced by reuseable glass bottles, which are refilled at in-house plants. This has enabled the Group to eliminate more than 6,000,000 plastic bottles annually.

Non-recyclable guest amenities have also been replaced by biodegradable alternatives such as linen laundry bags, bamboo combs and toothbrushes. Even the smallest details of every stay contribute to a greener future.

Flowing with purpose

Water is treated with great respect across all Oberoi Hotels & Resorts. From rainwater harvesting to optimised water usage in guest rooms, restaurants and hotel operations, every drop used is done so thoughtfully.

As much attention is given to internal practices as the external world. Marine conservation initiatives spearheaded by The Oberoi Beach Resort, Lombok and The Oberoi Beach Resort, Bali promote coral reef restoration and turtle conservation, nurturing vulnerable ecosystems now and for the future.

Powering change

Oberoi Hotels & Resorts is phasing out fossil fuels for a cleaner tomorrow. The Oberoi, Gurgaon is fully powered by solar energy. Wildflower Hall, An Oberoi Resort, Shimla in the Himalayas and The Oberoi Cecil, Shimla meet 100% of their needs with hydroelectric power.

The Oberoi, Bengaluru harnesses wind power. The Oberoi, Mumbai is 50% solar powered.

Oberoi Hotels & Resorts in Jaipur, Udaipur and Ranthambhore meet up to 45% of their needs with solar power. Those in Khajuraho, Bandhavgarh and Agra use up to 40% solar energy.

By 2023, Oberoi Hotels & Resorts plans to have at least 50% of all its electrical needs met with renewable energies.

All Oberoi Hotels & Resorts in India have EV charging stations for guests’ vehicles.

As the sun rises on World Environment Day 2026, every mindful action contributes to a brighter, more sustainable day. With ‘Elements by Oberoi’, Oberoi Hotels & Resorts is championing sustainability efforts across India; protecting the environment, positively impacting local communities and inspiring guests to travel with awareness and care.
