Travel Information

The Oberoi Amarvilas is located in the city of Agra, in the State of Uttar Pradesh, which is one of the largest states in India. The resort is situated 600 metres from the Taj Mahal and approximately 15 minutes from the city centre. It is also just one hour's drive from the UNESCO world heritage site of Fatehpur Sikri.

Location & Access

Flying to Delhi

Delhi's Indira Gandhi international and domestic airport terminals are the closest to Agra. From here, we recommend guests take the train or hire a car (both take approximately three hours) to reach The Oberoi Amarvilas.

Agra's Kheria Airport is located 13 km (approximately 30 minutes' drive) from the hotel. The Oberoi Air Charter can be arranged should you wish to make this journey. It takes approximately 45 minutes to fly from New Delhi to Kheria airport and another 30 minutes to drive from here to The Oberoi Amarvilas.

Trains to Agra

There are regular trains throughout the day to and from Agra Cantonment Railway Station to all the major cities in India. Please be advised that trains can be fully booked weeks in advance.

Some approximate train journey times are as follows:

  • Delhi to Agra trains: 3 hours
  • Sawai Madhopur to Agra trains (Sawai Madhopur is the closest station to Ranthambhore National Park and Tiger Reserve): 5 hours
  • Jaipur to Agra trains: 5 hours
  • The 18km drive from Agra Cantonment station to The Oberoi Amarvilas takes approximately 25 minutes. We would be happy to arrange a chauffeur driven car to meet your train.

It is mandatory for all international visitors to India to register with the Foreigners' Regional Registration Office within 24 hours of arrival. The hotel will scan your passport photograph page when you check in and take care of this service for you.

Visitors of Indian origin and foreigners aged above 10 years who reside in India can carry INR 45,000 (when the country of origin is Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar or China, the currency allowance is INR 6,000)

International visitors (over 18 years) from every other country can carry USD 10,000 or the value of USD 5,000 in other currencies, per person into India.

Duty Free Goods

Duty free allowances per person (over the age of 18) are as follows:

  • Alcohol: 2 litres
  • Cigarettes: 100 pieces
  • Cigars: 25 pieces
  • Tobacco: 125g

Passengers aged over 18 can also carry one laptop computer.

Customs duty is leviable at 36.05% on the valuable of dutiable goods in excess of the allowance.

Restricted Items

Agra is known for having mild winters, hot summers and a monsoon season.

Winter lasts from December to February, during which time temperatures can drop to 36°F (2°C), but most often hover around 50 °F (10°C). Winters are known as the best time to visit Agra.

Summers last from May to September, at which time temperatures can reach 115°F to 122 °F (46-50°C). The monsoon rains also happen during these months, with the highest average rainfall of 243 millimetres falling in August.

Autumn (October to November) and spring temperatures (March to April) are very similar, ranging between 72 °F and 82 °F (22°C and 28°C).


If you are travelling to Agra during the summer months, we recommend you wear loose clothing made from natural fabrics. During the winter months, you may wish to carry a sweater or shawl for the evenings.


English is widely spoken in India. Staff at the airport, hotels, restaurants and shops will most often be fluent in English.

Hindi is the official and most widely spoken native language in India. It is most concentrated in the northern states. Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada prevail in the south.
