Howrah Bridge

Howrah is Kolkata’s iconic cantilever bridge. A feat of engineering, with a suspended span of 457 metres and a total length of 705 metres between the banks of the Hooghly River. Built in 1943 to replace a pontoon bridge at the same location, the Howrah Bridge is the oldest bridge in Kolkata and the busiest cantilever bridge not only in India, but the entire world; carrying an estimated 100,000 motor vehicles and 150,000 pedestrians each day. Drive to the bridge from The Oberoi Grand, Kolkata and either continue by car or you can experience a walk on it over the Hooghly River.
