Travel Notes
The romantic island of Bali, located in the vast Indonesian archipelago, was an important trading post for the Dutch East India Company. It later became and remains until now, a hub for unique indigenous art, dance and theatre.
The Oberoi Beach Resort, Bali is located on the fashionable Seminyak Beach and has direct access to 500 metres of pristine sands.
All rooms and villas are a thoughtful harmony of natural colour palettes, beautiful ocean or garden views,
traditional design and contemporary technologies.
Take your pick from the thatched open air restaurant, the beach side cafe or the charming bar.
An al fresco dining space just steps from Seminyak Beach, Frangipani Cafe serves American, Continental, Indonesian breakfasts and light, healthy lunches. The space is tastefully appointed with teak wood seating, shaded by Balinese parasols and framed by exotic coconut, frangipani and hibiscus trees. Frangipani Cafe is open for breakfast and lunch.
Affectionately named after the turtles that nest on the nearby sands, Kura Kura Restaurant is a thatched, open air, fine dining space decorated with traditional artefacts and offering endless ocean views. A few more good reasons for you to stay with us.
Discover mountains, rice paddies, villages, temples and traditional arts.
Situated at an altitude of 700 metres, Jatiluwih village is a green, fertile expanse of rice paddies that seem to unfold from the sides of Mount Agung and Mount Batukaru and extend all the way to the coast. Paddy farmers here rely on a traditional, community based irrigation system known as subak. A UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This northern village area is a lovely place for walking; famed as it is, for its beautiful natural landscape, its active volcano, mountain views and the largest lake in Bali. Batur Lake is framed by villages heralded as living examples of ancient Balinese customs. Not for the faint hearted, these include the open burial of the dead under Taru Menyan trees.
Klungkung Palace has a fantastic chandi bentar (welcoming gate) and is surrounded by beautiful lotus ponds. The centrepiece is the Kertha Gosa Pavilion (the Hall of Justice) that dates back to the end of the 17th century. Originally the royal court of Bali, it was presided over by three Brahmana priests and still has traditional ceiling paintings depicting different punishments in the afterlife.
The 1,25,000 square metres Monkey Forest in Ubud is home to around seven hundred monkeys and almost two hundred species of trees. Some up to forty metres tall. The hordes of Balinese monkeys that inhabit the trees will greet you as you enter the forest. Some will be daring enough to get quite up close and personal. We recommend you keep anything shiny or valuable well out of their reach. Local people revere the Monkey Forest as an important spiritual, educational and conservation centre. Within its vast expanse, there are three large temples for the residents’ exclusive use and an open air stage for cultural performances.
