Travel Notes
Shimla is a quaint destination located in the Himalayan state of Himachal Pradesh, approximately 350 kms north of Delhi. And three hours by car from Chandigarh.
Shimla was adopted as the summer capital of British India in 1863. To this day, memories of the era abound in the many examples of colonial architecture that dot the city.
The Oberoi Cecil sits at the quieter end of Shimla’s central Mall Road, near many famous cultural sites and shopping.
The Oberoi, Bengaluru derives most of its electricity needs from wind power.
Our Bengaluru hotel also has IoT-based air purification in all guest rooms. This advanced filtration system cleanses the air of airborne pollutants and allergens. For the healthiest air in the city.
Take a guided walk through Shimla’s history. Spot original architecture and hear colourful stories of times gone by. Sights include Viceregal Lodge, Gorton Castle, St. Michael's Cathedral, The Mall, The Ridge and Clarkes Hotel.
This guided tour starts with a short walk (or drive) from The Oberoi Cecil to the village of Annadale, where you will descend through rhododendron and cedar forests into the Glen, for a picnic lunch beside a stream. Opt for an invigorating climb back to our hotel or let us drive you in a luxury car.
Equipped with air hockey, a carrom board, tabletop foosball, table tennis, a pool table and soft toys. The centre also has a well-stocked library and a daily changing schedule of complimentary activities. All supervised by a member of the Children’s Activity Centre team.
A romantic four-course dinner for two, personalised by our chefs, served in our private dining room and complemented by our unobtrusive attention. Perfect for a special occasion or just because.
A two-hour hike from Mashobra takes you along the periphery of the Presidential estate in Charabra. The hike to the top from here is easy. The hike traverses through villages, apple orchards, ridgelines, thick pine, spruce, oak forest and spectacular views of the Himalayas.
Christ Church in Shimla was built to accommodate the many British Christians living and visiting Shimla during the colonial rule. Started in 1844, it took over a decade to complete, but remains one of the best places to visit in Shimla during Christian festivals, or at any time of the year to take in some wonderful colonial architecture and feel yourself transported back into history. Christ Church is located on the Ridge, near Lakkar Bazaar and The Mall Road, within walking distance of The Oberoi Cecil, Shimla.
Jakhoo Temple sits atop Jakhoo hill, the highest peak in Shimla, standing at 2,438 metres above sea level. Jakhoo Temple is devoted to the monkey god: Lord Hanuman, who symbolises unfailing energy and spiritual devotion. The statue here, of Lord Hanuman, stands at 108 feet above sea level, making it 10 feet higher than the statue to Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Jakhoo Temple and the hill can be reached by road in around 30 minutes from The Oberoi Cecil or Clarkes, Shimla’s best hotels on Mall Road.
